"A truly SUPERB hotel"
Unlike the previous contributor, I was extremely impressed by this hotel - not just the superb view across the Vieux Port, but the comfort of my room, the excellent buffet breakfast (the best I have ever consumed in a European hotel anywhere!) and, above all, the great helpfulness and friendliness of ALL the staff, for whom nothing was too much trouble.......
Of course, my view may well be influenced by the fact that I came to Marseille to meet a very dear friend and not to haggle!
I shall certainly be staying longer at Residence du Vieux Port on my next visit!!

"Great view !"
We stayed at this nice 3-star hotel from 30 Dec to 02 Jan. We had reserved a 7th floor «provençal» room for EUR130.00 per night.
(Big) pros: South side sunny room (good point in winter), wall to wall/ceiling to ceiling window and a balcony giving a fabulous view of the Vieux-Port and the Notre Dame de la Garde. Staff are all nice, especially two of them. In the evening of 31 Dec, they set a self service free champagne (Veuve-Clicqot and not a cheap brand) table with tapenade at the reception. That was some class for a 3-star hotel. Being a champagne lover, I took advatage of this nice surprise by helping a few glasses myself (my partner does not drink.) bofore going out for the New Year’s Eve’s dinner.
No comments on breakfast buffet. Since we are not big brekfast eaters, we took a simple coffee and croissant/tartine at a sunny terrace cafe on the way to our excursions every morning. It suited us this way and costed us less than half of EUR11 hotel breakfast.
(Minor) cons: The room was smaller than it looked on the web site that initially disappointed me* (did not disappoint my partner) considering we paid more for this room than lower floor rooms. But we got used to it and the view from the room made up for it. The room slippers (yeah, that’s really not important) they had confirmed with bathrobes were missing. We asked once but never were provided. We did not insist.
* I think I felt the room small because of our previous stay in Marseille ig, we stayed at Hotel Mascotte, 3-star nearby in September. Mascotte’s room was larger, as nice and clean as Résidence's, had a partial but nice view of the Vieux-Port and it costed much less, EUR80.
Overall, we were very happy with our stay at Résidence du Vieux-Port so I can give it almost 5 points. I'm sure my partner would give 5.
